DeepL machine translation available in Wordbee Translator

by | Jun 11, 2018

Meet the new kid on the block - DeepL.

DeepL was launched in 2017. It is an automatic translation system based on artificial intelligence, capable of providing translations while identifying the most subtle nuances of language. It is currently available free of charge on DeepL.com and operates in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Dutch.

The company was actually founded in 2009 under the name of Linguee, which was the first translation search engine on the Internet. The site has responded to over 10 billion requests from more than one billion users. It is one of the most useful tools on the Web, because rather than translating a word by its equivalent as a dictionary would do, Linguee proposes the word in its context, indicating a series of examples where the word has been used.

According to DeepL itself, the system runs on one of the largest supercomputer in Iceland , where it is able to translate millions of words in under a second. And DeepL isn’t done yet. It also claims that its “revolutionary neural architecture” makes it the “most accurate and natural-sounding machine translation tool.”

This being said, it didn’t take long for DeepL to appear on Wordbee’s radar and to integrate the “DeepL” machine translation (MT) system into Wordbee Translator and Beebox.

The DeepL MT can be configured to be included as part of your translation project workflow within Wordbee Translator. When configured, the system will pre-translate uploaded documents with any available linguistic resources (translation memories, etc.) and then use the DeepL MT to complete translations where there are no matches in the resources.

Wordbee Client Portal users also have the option to use 2 free Add-in which allow them to launch DeepL MT directly from their Office (Wordbee for MS Word and Wordbee for MS Outlook) without having to access their Wordbee Translator platform. This method lets users translate emails, text and documents on the fly.
