Wordbee pulled off a resounding success at the second user meeting on May 30, 2018 at the International Auditorium in Brussels. The event saw the participation of over 70 users who networked and exchanged contact information for future collaborations.
Making it an experience
The event featured two tracks and included speakers from Turner, Lingua Custodia, Censhare, and Berns Language Consulting, and various Wordbee training sessions, workshops, and roundtables. It also marked Wordbee’s 10-year anniversary. Wordbee CEO José Vega kicked off the event by welcoming participants and giving an overview of Wordbee’s milestones and successes over the past 10 years, from constantly increasing revenues to meeting the goals identified in the company’s vision.
One of the most anticipated sessions was the presentation from Wordbee CTO Stephan Böhmig, who introduced some recently released functionalities and offered some exciting sneak peaks of upcoming features.
After Stephan’s presentation, participants divided into engaging breakout tracks focused on insightful business topics, best practices for localization and translation workflows, machine translation, automation, visual editing and neural machine learning, multi-channel/multi- technical communication, and the latest translation technology trends.
As part of Wordbee’s mission to give back to the community, technical track attendees were able to acquire and improve skills regarding the use of Wordbee Translator, such as financial management, the handling of special formats, Wordbee Beebox, the localization of complex games, and the New Editor.
In the business track, Elina Lagoudaki outlined her presentation around the localization process at Turner and how business analytics show the financial benefits of efficiently using a TMS. She also explained how her team implemented the localization process in such a way that any children’s game can be localized easily.
Wordbee is the first port of call for stored brand terminology translations, and it’s used by various departments in EMEA as well as the US, LatAm and APAC.
In another engaging session, Olivier Debeugny talked about neural machine translation for the Fintech industry, followed by a passionate debate around the key challenges and hurdles to overcome with MT in financial organizations and how the attendees would address those challenges.
The presentations were followed by a panel discussion of translators, terminologists, and localization experts about 21st century translation technology trends. Among the panelists were Isabella Massardo (translator and terminologist), Olivier Debeugny (CEO of Lingua Custodia), Gareth Wilson (freelance translator and lecturer), Anita Sempels (CSO of Wordbee), and Andre Hemker (Executive Director of Wordcraft GmbH).
Saving the best for last
The event finished with a compelling presentation by Valerie Arnold on “Innovation 3.0,” about why envisioning the future doesn’t work anymore and what to do about it. It was a fitting finale for an incredibly full day at the crossroads of innovation thought-leadership and psychology, as Valerie spoke passionately about how to gain insights and identify some of our own barriers to innovation, and how we can pragmatically embed innovation in our work processes.
Just before the curtains came down on the event for another year, Wordbee gave attendees a treat in the form of a reception and networking event. At the end of the day, we distributed company momentos, and José and Stephan cut the fabulous anniversary cake.
